The Body Remembers: A Gentle Invitation to Come Home

The Body Remembers: A Gentle Invitation to Come Home

Caitlin Maree Hartby Caitlin Maree Hart· 2 min read

There is a quiet knowing that lives in the body.

Not loud, not urgent.

But deep.

Certain.

True.

Even when our minds race or forget — the body remembers.

It remembers the laugh that made your chest flutter open.

The heartbreak that made your shoulders close.

The times you were held.

The times you were not.

It holds your story — not in words, but in breath, in tension, in posture, in sensation.

And in every moment, it offers you a way back to yourself.

Reconnection is not a task — it is a return.

For many of us, the body has felt like a place to escape.

Too much. Too loud. Too painful. Too slow.

But the truth is: your body is not the problem.

It's the place where the problem was felt.

And it's also the place where the healing can begin.

Coming home to your body isn't about perfect health or peak performance.

It's about presence. Listening. Trust.

It's about asking — softly, tenderly:

What do you need right now, love?

Somatic practices to return gently

Here are a few invitations — not prescriptions — for returning to your body with reverence:

Hand to Heart, Breath to Belly

Pause. Place one hand on your chest, the other on your lower belly.

Breathe slowly, without force.

Feel what moves, and what doesn't. Be with it.

Name What You Feel

Not in judgement, just in noticing.

Tight jaw. Heavy limbs. Fluttery belly.

Naming brings awareness. Awareness opens choice.

Orient to Safety

Look around your space. Name five things you see.

Feel the chair beneath you.

Tell your nervous system: We are here now. We are safe.

Move What Wants to Move

Sway. Shake. Stretch. Yawn.

Let movement be medicine, not performance.

Listen with Curiosity

Every sensation is a message. Not all need fixing.

Some just want to be heard.

You are not broken — you are remembering.

This work is not linear. There is no finish line.

But each time you choose presence,

Each time you soften instead of push,

Each time you meet yourself with care —

You come closer to home.

Your body is not an obstacle.

It's a portal.

To truth. To healing. To life.

And it's ready — when you are — to welcome you back.
